    Programs

    Reedley DRIVE-THRU Senior Gleaners
    Fresh fruits and vegetables are distributed to seniors every Wednesday. Distribution is done at the Reedley Community Center parking lot enter through East Ave, starting at 8:30 a.m. Donations are welcomed! You must be at least 55 years old to participate. Must have ID available.

    Tai Chi
    Improve your balance and your health with Tai Chi! Classes are $15 a month. Call 559-637-4207 for date/time.

    Senior Exercise

    Water Aerobics

    Join instructor Bobbi Monk Tuesday and Thursdays for Water Aerobics at the Reedley High School Pool from 9am-10am. Sign up at the Reedley Community Center front office.

    Information and Assistance
    Finding services to meet the needs of seniors and their families can be very challenging. The Reedley Senior Services Office would like to help. Call our office at (559) 637-4207 and ask for Jodi. She will provide information and assistance to seniors and their families within the Reedley area.

    Reedley Senior News
    A monthly newsletter is published by the Senior Services Office and the Reedley Senior Commission, Inc.. If you are a senior and wish to receive the newsletter, please call the Senior Services Office at (559) 637-4207. Donations are greatly appreciated and a tax deductible.

    HICAP
    Do you have questions about supplemental health insurance? Are you are confused about choosing between Medicare and an HMO? A HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) volunteer may be able to assist you. This program is designed to assist seniors with filing claims, understanding coverage, and fighting denials of claims by both Medicare and any HMO. Call the HICAP central office at 1-800-434-0222 to set up an appointment.

    Telephone Access
    If you have a hearing, memory, vision or mobility loss and you have a land phone, you are eligible for a FREE PHONE. You call 1-800-806-1191 to make your request.

    Pool Table
    The Reedley Senior Services Office has a pool table for seniors to play. Drop by anytime between 9:00 and 11:00 am Monday through Friday. If you are interested in playing, please give us a call or stop by the Senior Center!

    Annual Senior Prom
    A special evening of dining, dancing, socializing and entertainment will be held for local senior citizens at Sierra View Homes. Tickets for sale in August with the event in September. Please contact the Senior Center for the date and theme.

    Senior Cinema
    A monthly event where we screen a requested movie/film and serve theater style popcorn. Senior Cinema happens once a month at 1:00pm – (Check monthly newsletter calendar for date, time & movie title.)

    Services

    Reduced Fee Fishing License
    The Senior Services Office has Reduced-Fee Licenses available for $7.73. You must meet one of the following restrictions.

    • Be 65 years or older and receiving SSI. You must submit verification from Social Security or a copy of last year’s reduced-fee license.
    • Be an honorably discharged veteran with a service connected disability of 70% or more. Proof must be received from Veteran’s Administration or a copy of last year’s reduced-fee license.
    • Be 65 years or older, and a resident of California with a total income of less than $931.72 for a single person or $1,564.14 for a couple. You must submit income verification from Social Security or a copy of last year’s reduced-fee license.

    Diaper Derby
    Sponsored by the Reedley Senior Commission, Inc. and Sierra View Homes. Infants ages 6 to 12 months old who are not yet walking are encouraged to participate in crawling races. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in each event.

    Senior Volunteers
    We would like to express our grateful and heartfelt appreciation to all of the senior services volunteers. It is through their dedication, commitment, and hard work that the City of Reedley can provide year around services and programs for the seniors of Reedley. Our dedicated volunteers work on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis to help carry out our services and programs. Our volunteers range in age from 55 to 95 years young and their energies are a marvel. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact the Senior Center for more information.

    Senior Lunches
    Meals taste so much better when you can share them in the company of others! Join us in the Phil Hudson senior room at the Community Center weekdays at 11:00 a.m. (except holidays) for a nutritious lunch and good time. This program is partially funded by the Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging. There is no charge for the meals if you are 60 or older; however donations are accepted (suggested donation is $2.50 per meal). Guests who are under the age of 60 are welcome to attend for $5.70 per meal. Reservations must be made by 11:00 a.m. the weekday before you plan to attend. Call 637-4207 for your reservation today. We also celebrate monthly birthdays and anniversaries with cake and have many other fun occasions.

    Senior Luncheon
    Join us for Senior Luncheons. Call the Senior Center for dates. at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Center. Each luncheon a provides a full meal, entertainment, door prizes, and a good time shared by one and all.

    Hobby Time
    Every Tuesday from 12-3pm the Senior Center is open for Hobby Time. Stop by and check out what’s happening and the fun activities that are available. We have those that enjoy painting, reading a good book, working on a puzzle, knitting/crocheting, billiards or join in a game of Texas Hold-Em.
