The Reedley Fire Department recently added 2 plaques to memorialize the 2 Line of Duty deaths that have occurred since the inception of the fire department.

Firefighter Perley E. Miller died while fighting a fire. His duty was to turn off the electricity to the city lights at the time of a fire. FF Miller had been performing this duty for 2 years.

On October 5th, 1917, the fire department was summoned to a house fire. FF Miller assumed his role to turn off the electricity to the city lights. He then joined the other firefighters in extinguishing the flames.

Upon control of the fire, Chief Gillingham instructed FF Miller to turn the electricity back on. FF Miller, soaking wet, climbed the 25 foot high pole located behind the Club stables to restore power. A flash was seen by a witness and FF Miller fell to the ground suffering deadly injuries.

Firefighter Elmer Madsen was killed while responding to the fire station. The call for a fire came in about 2:30 pm on December 9th, 1972. The call was for smoke in a residence.

When the firemen finished their investigation of the house, they received a call of a possible vehicle fire at the intersection of 11th and K Streets. The firefighters arrived at the scene to find out that FF Madsen was one of the drivers in a vehicle collision. FF Madsen sustained fatal injuries.

FF Madsen was held in high regard by the community. Fire Chief Stewart said at the time "He was one the most dedicated men I've ever known".

These 2 plaques will forever memorialize the lives of these courageous men who gave their lives in the pursuit of saving life and property. Our gratitude goes out to the Reedley Historical Society and the City of Reedley for providing the plaques and to Crutchfield Construction for donating the frame and mounting.

We appreciate the community’s patience as the Olson Bridge sewer pipe replacement project continues. This is part of the old pipe that was removed from the bridge today. It is as old as the bridge itself, and as is obvious, was really ready for replacement! The community may not always see workers on the bridge during the project, as some work is also being done at the Wastewater Plant itself. This $4.2 million project is primarily grant funded through the State of California through the work of Senator Melissa Hurtado.

Join Us for Denim Day 2024!

Dear Reedley Community,

We're excited to announce that on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, we'll be participating in Denim Day, and we invite you to join us!

Denim Day isn't just about wearing jeans; it's about standing up against sexual violence and supporting survivors. This movement began in 1999 as a response to an Italian court's troubling decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans, implying consent. Since then, Denim Day has grown into a global movement, symbolizing our rejection of victim-blaming and our solidarity with survivors of sexual assault.

On April 24th, we encourage everyone in our community to wear denim to show your support for this important cause. Let's spark conversations, raise awareness, and stand together in solidarity.

Let's make a statement together and show that our community stands against sexual violence.

Recognizing Our Reedley Police Dispatchers During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW)

Do you ever wonder who’s the person behind our emergency calls to 911? All we know about them is their voice, which is why NPSTW, observed every second week in April, has been set aside to recognize and celebrate the work of telecommunicators helping to save millions of lives every day.

Here in Reedley, our Police Dispatchers are the unsung heroes behind the scenes, ensuring that help reaches those in need swiftly and efficiently. The Reedley Police Department employs 7 full-time dispatchers who are amongst the best in the nation. They clearly understand the value of community and give their best every day.

Without their dedication and expertise, billions of lives would be at risk due to untimely assistance.

Throughout this week, let's take a moment to honor and express our gratitude to our invisible telecommunicators who continue to serve in this demanding profession. Your tireless efforts are truly appreciated and make a significant impact on our community's safety.

Thank you, Reedley Police Dispatchers, for your unwavering commitment to keeping us safe!

Important Community Announcement

We regret to inform you of a tragic incident that occurred in our city earlier this evening. At approximately 7:52 p.m., officers from the Reedley Police Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision in the 900 block of East Springfield Avenue.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a vehicle driven by a 69-year-old female was traveling west on Springfield Avenue when it collided with a 72-year-old female pedestrian crossing the street with a walker, outside of a designated crosswalk.

Despite the immediate aid provided by our officers, the pedestrian's injuries were severe, and she was rushed to Adventist Health - Reedley Hospital. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of her passing due to the collision.

We want to assure the community that the driver involved in the incident is cooperating fully with our investigation. There is no evidence to suggest alcohol or drug use played a role in this tragic event.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time. We ask for your support and understanding as we work diligently to investigate this matter further.

Please remember to exercise caution and prioritize safety when navigating our roadways. Let's come together as a community to support one another during this challenging period.

Breaking News from Reedley Police Department!

Attention Reedley Community,

We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to a vigilant resident who flagged down our officers at the Oaks earlier today. Thanks to their quick action, our officers responded swiftly to reports of gang-related vandalism in the area of Columbia/Washington.

Our officers promptly located the vandalism site and spotted a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses near a freshly painted "Norteno" tagging on Evening Glow/Columbia. Despite an attempt to evade law enforcement, officers successfully initiated a traffic stop, resulting in a brief pursuit that concluded on Fisher/Dinuba.

We are pleased to report that three individuals have been apprehended and taken into custody. Erik Valencia (23) (not our Chamber Director) of Reedley was arrested for evading arrest, while Alejandro Amezcua (29) of Reedley and Mario Samaniego (21) of Reedley were arrested for vandalism.

During our investigation, we discovered four walls defaced by the suspects, along with aerosol paint cans found within the vehicle. Notably, Amezcua and Samaniego were found with paint residue on their hands, further implicating their involvement.

We want to reassure the community that we remain committed to ensuring your safety and security. Your cooperation and vigilance are invaluable in helping us maintain law and order in our city.

For any further inquiries or information, please don't hesitate to contact us at (559) 637-4250.

Stay safe, Reedley!
